June 02, 1948 Racinboy73@aol.com Retired police Officer
First, those of you who might remember me will remember me as Courtney Smith. No one has called me Courtney since graduation thank God. I'm George or G.C. now. My mother loved the name Courtney. I didn't. I always told her it was a girl's name and I have been proven right. Like a boy named Sue.

Immediately after graduation I went to work at AMF Beaird where I could work while learning the skills of welding and pipe fitting so I could use those skills to build my race cars and hot rods. Once I was proficient at those skills, I became a Police Officer at the Shreveport Police Department in March of 1970. During my career I worked Patrol, Investigations in the Burglary, Robbery, Homicide, and Sex Crimes Units, and Internal Affairs. Actually, I was able to work in every unit of the department except Narcotics and Juvenile. I even got to work some cases with Lamar Breedlove when we were detectives with different agencies. I retired as Assistant Chief in 2001. It was a very rewarding career, having given me the opportunity to experience things that people outside Law Enforcement can only imagine. I wish I had kept notes as it would have made an interesting book. I am still mostly retired but I do have a private investigations agency and I do some part time work occasionally. I like the retired times better though.

I married soon after graduation and that marriage produced three children. The first, a boy, died at three months of age. The second was a boy and the third a girl. They are both married and have given me five grandchildren ranging in age from 5 to 22. That marriage lasted 8 years to the day. I was divorced on my 8th anniversary. Such efficeincy!

In 1976 I married Judy Kupp who was working at the police department as a dispatcher at the time. She went on to open her own business, "Curtain Calls" a drapery and upholstery shop. Judy and I went to upholstery school at the Bossier Parish Community College to learn the skills necessary again, for building hot rods. Her business just sort of evolved from that. I can't begin to imagine how many sofas and chairs I have loaded und unloaded over the years. She also directed a women's chorus for the BPCC for many years. Judy was the most wonderful woman. During my years of dirt track racing she was always supportive and my biggest fan. We didn't have children but we had a wonderful life together until she died of cancer in 2004. During our entire time together, we never had a cross word between us. Not one. Most people don't get a relationship like that.  I am still single now but God willing, maybe I'll find love again before my time here is up. While I've had some rough times as anyone has, overall I have been very blessed.

I'm a member of Eastwood Baptist Church and I love it. If any of you local folks are looking for a church home, I invite you to try Eastwood.

I can hardly believe it's been 45 years...until I look in the mirror to shave.

I can't believe it's been 45 years since graduation. I'm so excited to see a lot of my classmates and I hope we all stay in touch after the reunion. After graduation, I moved to Seattle and when I returned, I attended LSU Shreveport. I worked as a model and as a result, I was chosen to represent Union Oil Company on the NASCAR circuit. I thought it would last for maybe a year, but instead I stayed with the company for 16 years. I have one daughter and we moved to Dallas when she was in the first grade. In addition to Union Oil, I was a Flight Attendant for an international airline owned by the Hunt Oil family in Dallas. We flew all the professional sports teams, movie stars, politicians, military, vacations, etc. One of my most interesting trips was the month I spent in Bahrain. After being a F/A for six years, it was turned into a cargo fleet, I knew after working for a charter airline and being Senior Flight Attendant, there was no way, I wanted to work for American and be way down on the totem pole. I decided to get into outside sales. I absolutely love the company I'm with and I have a passion for the industry which is alternative health. I moved to Huntington Beach when I remarried, but only stayed one year. I have 3 amazing grandchildren. Their ages are 23-Cheyenne (Student, Barrel Racer, works for me part time), 18-Cody (PBR-Professional Bull Rider) and the joy of my life is little my little grandson, Colton, who is 6 years old. He's more like my own child than a grandchild. He has his own room in my home and we spend a lot of time together, especially in the summer. We attend church together and we go to 6 Flags, a lot of plays & musicals, etc. You name it. We stay on the go. By the way, I let my hair grow back to it's natural color-blonde. : )
